House and Food
Our house is typical of the houses in Ruislip Manor. There is a garden at the back for our pet hens, and some flowering plants. You are welcome to use the garden. There is also a pond with some fish in, and a corner of the garden which is left for natural wildlife. The hens do not come into the house unless we bring them in for treatment, for example if they are unwell or have an injury. Food We love cooking, and are always keen to learn about your favourite dishes. You will be given meals which are eaten in an English home (including pizzas and pastas), but you can show us how to cook your favourite dish if you so wish. If you have any special diets, such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal and so on, please let me know in advance so that arrangements can be made for you not to miss out on anything. We do not do kosher meals. Although you won't be given a full English breakfast each morning, there will always be plenty to eat. All the eggs we serve are of course laid by our own free-range hens, are GM-free, with no hormones or antibiotics. Here are examples of some food for breakfast: Plenty of tea, coffee, milk and juice Of course, you can have as many cups of tea as you like, for you will be living in an English home. If you have any suggestions to make, or anything in particular that you want to eat, please let us know - we'd be happy to oblige.
Our four laying hens have their own enclosure in the garden and their own house and nest box. During the day they roam the garden freely, but at night they are locked up to protect them from the foxes that visit our garden.
Poached egg on toast
Bacon and tomato
Sausage and beans
As much cereal as you like
As much toast and bread as you like
Slices of cheese or cold meats
As much fruit as you like
Lunch is usually something like a salad, sandwiches or rolls, or home-made beef burgers. Sometimes there might be jacket potato or quiche. As far as possible, most of our food is home made. (You might even want to make sausages with us!)
Dinner is varied but we hope will always be to your liking. Friday night is for fish and chips. At some point during the week, we will have dinner at a typical English carvery at a pub nearby.
